Azmir McCowin

A York City man who'd been under investigation by officers for allegedly being a crack-cocaine dealer was arrested Wednesday after causing a brief police chase that ended when he crashed his car, police said.

Azmir McCowin, 18, of 323 S. Pine St., is in York County Prison on $15,000 and a probation violation detainer on prior drug-dealing case.

Seized from McCowin during the arrest was $800 worth of crack, York City Detective First Class Andy Shaffer said.

According to Shaffer, McCowin had been under investigation by city detectives for some time. When detectives spotted him in the city, they called for patrol officers to arrest him.

But when an officer tried to pull over McCowin, the man took off, leading the officer on a 15- to 20-second chase that lasted two or three blocks and ended when McCowin crashed his car near the corner of Kurtz Avenue and West Cottage Place, Shaffer said.

McCowin is charged with delivery of crack, possession with intent to deliver crack, fleeing or attempting to elude police and accidents involving personal injury.
