The York County and York Catholic basketball communities are rallying around one of their own.
On Saturday, Oct. 13, York College will play host to a day of basketball to raise money to help support former York Catholic standout Amanda Weaver in her fight against cancer.
Weaver finished her stellar career at York Catholic with 1,780 points. She also helped the Lady Irish win a pair of PIAA State Class AA basketball titles in 2006 and 2007. Weaver has been diagnosed with stage 3 colorectal cancer.
It had been previously announced, by the York Unity Sports Event Organizing Committee, that the Weaver Fever 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament would take place on Oct. 13.

All of the action will take place at the Grumbacher Sport and Fitness Center's Wolf Gymnasium.
Registration for the Weaver Fever 3 on 3 event has closed, but the community is invited to watch the games, which start at 8:30 a.m.. Donations to help Weaver and the American Cancer Society will be accepted. The 3-on-3 event will feature 80 teams featuring players ages 9 and up. Following that tournament, many former York Catholic and area players will reunite for two benefit basketball games at 6:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
At 6:30, the Fighting Irish team, coached by Andy Bria, will play the Capital Area All-Stars, coached by Denny Bavaria. At 7:30, the York Catholic girls will face the York County All-Stars, coached by York Suburban's Bob Rudisill.
Appearing for the York Catholic team will be Megan Stewart, Danielle Colombo, Schuyler Merritt, Lindsey Marks, Shannon Bilyeu, Kelly Rhein, Ashton Bankos, Steph Carr, Brittany Hicks, Carly Marks, Mary Kurnat Manlove, Emily Falvey and Coach Sue Reed.
The Capital Area stars team will include Red Lion's Marley and Samantha Klunk, Littlestown's Katie Warehime, Lewistown's Hannah Geddey and Jenny Cunningham and Cumberland Valley's Casey Stanton.
