A single-vehicle crash on Interstate 83 closed the southbound lanes of the highway in Springfield Township for over three hours Wednesday.

A camper trailer being pulled by a pickup truck overturned about 3:25 p.m. after the truck hit a bump Exit 10, the Loganville exit, and the driver lost control of the truck, said Bryan Ream, first assistant chief of Loganville Fire Co.

The truck and camper hit a guardrail, causing the camper to tip over and to be torn from the frame of the trailer, Ream said.

Debris was strewn across the soutbound lanes. The male driver was not injuried and helped first responders clean up the mess, the chief said.

The trailer was destroyed but the man drove the pickup truck from the scene.

The crash and clean up effort prompted officials to close the southbound lanes, causing a traffic jam.

While the highway was closed, a detour was set up, according to an advisory from the state Department of Transportation.

The highway fully reopened a little before 7 p.m.
