Manchester Township's career firefighters handed over a $5,600 check Monday to the Multiple Dystrophy Association.

The money was raised through a series of "Fill the Boot" fundraisers that included a free concert held in September.

The concert at Cousler Park on Sept. 23 featured country music star Bucky Covington and local artists Lindsey Erin, Brittany Opperman, and Kayla Kroh. The concert, organized by Manchester Township Department of Fire Services firefighter Chris Mowry, was free, but attendees were asked to contribute funds to the MDA.

Other money was raised at Starbuck's and at a Rita's Italian Ice celebrity scoop, both along Route 30 in Manchester Township; and at a guest bartending night at Maewyn's Irish Pub in York City as part of Local IAFF 3503's "Fill the Boot" efforts.

All money raised will directly benefit clients in York County living with a neuromuscular disease, according to a news release.
