A friend of Joanne Borders has organized a memorial service Saturday to honor the York City councilwoman who died Monday after a long battle with cancer.
Shari Krepps is inviting the public to a casual gathering from noon to about 4 p.m. at Williams Park, located at the corner of Cottage Hill Road and Smith Street.
At 2:30 p.m., friends and family will share memories of Borders in a "time of remembrance" ceremony," Krepps said.
There will be music and food. Krepps suggested that people bring lawn chairs.
For more information about the memorial service, contact Krepps at (717) 650-0073.
Borders' family has planned viewings for 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday and 9 to 10:45 a.m. Monday at Trinity United Church of Christ, 32 W. Market St.
The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Monday with Borders' pastor, the Rev. Ruth Harvey, officiating.
Burial is at Susquehanna Memorial Gardens immediately following the service.
The family asks that all memorial contributions be made to R.O.A.R., 35 E. Philadelphia St., York, PA 17401 to further ovarian cancer awareness.
