The York YWCA, through its Access-York and Victim Assistance Center programs, is asking the community to come together next month for the elimination of sexual violence in York County.

Throughout October, the group has events planned to mark Domestic Violence Awareness Month, now in its 25th year.

Up first is a fundraiser hosted by the School of Culinary Arts, 1063 N. George St. Four-course dinners will be served starting at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Tickets cost $40, and proceeds benefit Access York.

Then, on Saturday, Oct. 6 and Sunday, Oct. 7, the 15th annual Women's Show will take over the York Expo Center.

The annual event features exhibits, fashion shows, entertainment, seminars, demonstrations and product sampling, all geared especially to the interests of women. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Victim Assistance Center.

To benefit Access-York, Empire Beauty School, 2592 Eastern Boulevard, will host a "Day of Beauty" from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6.

The WellSpan Women's Health Center will host "But I Love Him/Her," a program about healthy relationships designed for high school students and their parents or guardians. There is no cost to participate in the workshop, scheduled for 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17.

To raise awareness about domestic violence, the YWCA is sponsoring a Pumpkin Run before the Halloween Parade at 1:45 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 28.

The Purple Ribbon Campaign will be held all month, and ribbons can be picked up at Rutter's Farm Stores, various businesses in the area, and all events mentioned above.
