An Adams County man faces charges in connection with a metal theft that occurred in Heidelberg Township Wednesday.

John Russell Lehigh, 51, of the 1000 block of Abbottstown Pike in Berwick Township is charged with theft, possession of stolen property and trespassing, according to Southwestern Regional Police.

Lehigh is accused of stealing large pieces of metal from outside of Hanover Iron Works in the 400 block of Gitts Run Road, police said.

A witness called York County 911 and reported that a person was loading the metal onto a trailer pulled by a pickup truck about 9 p.m., police said.

The pickup truck left the business but was stopped by a Penn Township Police officer, police said.

A Southwestern Regional Police officer arrived a short time later and determined that Lehigh did not have permission to be on the property and that the metal did not belong to him, police said.

Lehigh also had other large pieces of metal that did not belong to Hanover Iron Works at the time of his arrest. If other businesses believe they are the victims of this type of crime, they should contact Officer Stu Harrison 225-1333 ext. 111.
