Sweet Frog is leaping into Shrewsbury.

The self-serve, frozen yogurt chain recently inked a 10-year lease to move into the Shrewsbury Square Shopping Center, which includes Giant, Starbucks and other retailers.

Popularity has soared since March when Steve and Cherrie Pettit opened the franchise in Queensgate Towne Center, York Township. There's rarely an open seat on weekends, as lines weave out of the door at the 2071 Springwood Road location, according to manager Eric Watts.

That success has inspired the Pettits to open a location in Shrewsbury, he said, but an opening date hasn't been confirmed. Once it opens, customers will be able to choose among 14 flavors at do-it-yourself machines. Then they can top their desired frozen yogurt with a buffet of options, including fresh fruits, gummy treats, candy pieces and other confections.

Prices are based on weight and sometimes vary by store.

The York Township location charges 39 cents per ounce.

A Hanover store at 151 Wilson Ave., opened in May by owner Harry Martin, charges 41.05 cents per ounce.

Something customers will see at all Sweet Frog locations is a pink and green décor and Christian theme. The "Frog" in Sweet Frog stands for Fully Rely on God, which is a message often repeated on employee uniforms.
