Following an autopsy, the York County Coroner's Office has ruled the cause of death of a York City man who crashed his vehicle near Kiwanis Lake Sunday morning.

Hector Gonzalez, 31, of North Penn Street, died of blunt force trauma to the head. The manner of death is accidental, according to the coroner's office. A toxicology report is expected in two months.

State police said Gonzalez fled from officers and crashed. He was pronounced dead at the scene after the vehicle he was driving wound up in the lake.

State police said troopers saw a vehicle driving erratically on Route 30 in the area of Pennsylvania Avenue at 3:24 a.m. Sunday. After observing several traffic violations, troopers attempted to pull the vehicle over, but Gonzalez refused to stop, police said.

Gonzalez fled south on Pennsylvania Avenue and lost control at its intersection with Parkway Boulevard, police said.

His vehicle struck a curb at the intersection and then hit a tree before crashing into Kiwanis Lake, said state police.

The lake had to be partially drained to retrieve his body, because when the car was pulled out his body was not inside, police said.
