Ten Spring Grove Area School District students complained of pain after a school van crashed into the back of a school bus Monday. (submitted)

A number of Spring Grove Area Junior High School students escaped injury when the bus they were on was rear ended by a school van in Jackson Township on Monday.

The seventh and eighth grade students, who are on the junior high cross-country team, were en route to a meet, said Lisa Smith, district spokeswoman.

The bus was struck from behind as it was stopped at a railroad crossing on Route 116 near Little Creek Road about 2:40 p.m., according to Northern York County Regional Police.

Both the bus and the van are owned and operated by Durham School Service.

Approximately ten of the athletes complained of pain. All were checked by district medical staff but none were transported to the hospital, police said.

The students were taken back to the Spring Grove Area Junior High School and were released to their parents, police said.

It's not known how many students were on the bus but Smith said she doubts "that the bus was filled."

The only person in the van was the driver, Smith said.
