A York area woman drove her car through construction barricades and crashed into a construction pit, part of a bridge replacement project, in Spring Grove early Sunday morning.
Lisa A. Myers, 26, was driving a 2008 Toyota Prius east on Route 116, known locally as York Road, about 2:30 a.m. when she didn't notice that the road was closed, according to Southwestern Regional Police.
The car crashed through barricades, went over a 30-foot embankment and into a construction pit, police said.
Myers was able to climb out of the pit and walked to a friend's nearby house, police said.
She didn't reported the crash to authorities until 10 a.m., police said.
A large piece of construction equipment was used to remove the car from the pit, police said.
Representatives of the construction company reported no financial loss to police but cleaning up the mess was to take several hours, police said.
The state Department of Transportation's $4 million construction project to replace the bridge that carries Route 116 over the Codorus Creek started in May and is expected to wrap up in February.
Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact officer Shaun Dickmyer at 225-1333 ext. 113.
