Charging documents filed against a man who turned himself in Monday allege four men were involved in a recent drive-by shooting.

James Dennis Abney Jr. fired from the back seat during the incident eight days ago, police said, and was shot in the right shoulder.

He turned himself in Monday morning and was arraigned.

The 26-year-old, of 236 E. Cottage Place, remains free on unsecured bail, charged with attempted homicide, aggravated assault and conspiracy to commit aggravated assault.

York City

detectives allege he was one of four men who committed a drive-by shooting in the 100 block of Stevens Avenue about 6:45 p.m. Sept. 4.

Fired from car? A witness at the scene told detectives Abney and another man both fired out the windows of a moving Chrysler, according to charging documents.

Destine Callistro, 18, of Stevens Avenue, and a 17-year old boy were shot; both escaped life-threatening injuries, according to police, who said both victims were three-quarters of a block away from the incident.

Abney was shot, apparently by someone on the street returning fire, according to documents.

Ronald Anthony Payton III was driving the Chrysler, which was loaned to him by a Hanover woman in exchange for crack cocaine, charging documents allege.

That's a common practice police refer to as a "crack lease."

Payton, 20, of York City, is wanted on charges of attempted homicide, aggravated assault and conspiracy to commit aggravated assault, police said.

'Crews' involved? The shooting involved members of the city's Parkway and south-side "crews," or loosely organized neighborhood gangs, according to police.

Members of the same two groups are also behind the large fight outside Five Guys Burgers and Fries along Route 30 on Sept. 2.

At least two people fired guns during the fight, police said. Glenniece Banks, 31, was shot in the head and remains in York Hospital.

One man has so far been charged in the Five Guys shooting -- Tyree Eatmon, 24, of 828 W. Poplar St.

Abney and Eatmon are half-brothers, confirmed their defense attorney, George Marros, who said both men maintain their innocence.

Anyone with information on Payton's whereabouts, or either of the shootings, is asked to call city detectives at 849-2219.
