If you can follow directions and have about 11 hours to spare Thursday, some local filmmakers could use your help.

The folks of Bad Ferret Films are looking for extras who can add authenticity to an important opening scene in the low-budget film they began shooting in York this week.

Anyone who's willing to commit to the full day should show up at Cobblestone's Restaurant & Sports Emporium, 205 S. George St., at 11:30 a.m. As a "principal extra," the chosen volunteers will work alongside the film's actors and take direction from the filmmakers.

"Those will be the people who really, clearly are visible," said Courtney Shumway, one of the film's creative partners.

The job doesn't come with a paycheck, but principal extras will get credit in the film and a DVD copy, she said.

Then, at 4 p.m., Cobblestone's will open to the public as it always does. Filming will resume around 6 p.m., and the directors are hoping to take advantage of a crowded bar, Shumway said.

"Even if they're just stopping in for a drink, as many people to come out and be in the bar and help us fill in the space later on in the evening is great," Shumway said. "People who are just sort of filtering in and out throughout the night could very easily be in some of the crowd scenes."

Principal extras should plan on sticking around until about 10 p.m., she said.

"The more, the merrier," she said. "We will certainly make use of people."

The film, titled Massé, is a "twisted love story" with a contemporary noir flair about a pool hustler who is floating through life when an old flame reappears.

The project will be shot almost entirely in York during the next few weeks. Filming began Tuesday at an apartment on West Market Street, Shumway said.

Shumway and creative partner Jay Taylor own and operate Bad Ferret Films at 17 W. Market St.
