Defending York-Adams Division I girls' volleyball champion Spring Grove got pushed to the limit on Tuesday evening in its 2012 division opener.

The Rockets survived, however, for a 22-25, 25-15, 25-12, 21-25, 15-8 win vs. visiting Red Lion.

The Lions finished just 1-11 in division action a year ago, while Spring Grove finished at 11-1.

The Rockets were led by Katie Baynum (17 kills, four blocks, four aces), Adrienne Marcionette (22 digs, seven aces), Brooke Osborne (20 assists, seven kills, four blocks) and Sarah Senft (15 assists).

Red Lion's stat leaders were Marky Vebares (15 kills, 19 digs, seven blocks), Rachel Groff (16 digs, four kills, three aces), Rachel Faulkenroth (21 digs), Clarissa Fuller (20 digs) and Brooke Daugherty (34 assists, seven digs).

Spring Grove also won the JV match.

OTHER GIRLS' VOLLEYBALL

EASTERN YORK 3, KENNARD-DALE 1: At Wrightsville, the Golden Knights grabbed a 25-13, 25-16, 18-25, 25-15 triumph. The stat leaders for the Knights were: Lexi Rhein (15 assists, nine digs, 11 kills, three blocks), Lauren Reichard (eight kills, five blocks) and Kirsten Myers (seven digs, seven aces). K-D was led by: Taylor Davis (13 assists), Jess Myers (four kills, six blocks) and Sara Tarbert (six kills, five blocks). Eastern also won the JV match, 25-15, 26-24.

CENTRAL YORK 3, DALLASTOWN 0: At Central, the home team rolled to a 25-8, 25-18, 25-12 victory behind 14 kills and five aces from Hadley Swartz. Erin Dobbeck added 36 assists for the winners, while Alexis Biesecker added 11 digs. For Dallastown, Katie Pennewill (six kills, seven assists), McKenzie Peters (four kills, nine assists) and Emma Legere (20 digs) led the way. Central won the JV match, 25-17, 25-18.

NEW OXFORD 3, YORK HIGH 0: At New Oxford, Alexis Hufnagle and Ashley Caster teamed for 14 kills to help power the Colonials past the Bearcats, 25-14, 25-16, 25-4. Hufnagle also served 14 aces, and Bonaire Berry supplied 15 assists. New Oxford won the JV match, 25-11, 25-7.

SUSQUEHANNOCK 3, SOUTH WESTERN 0: At Glen Rock, Rachel Moltz led the Warriors with four kills, 27 assists and eight digs. Abigail Bentz, Leah Deter and Beth Garrison combined for 21 kills for Susquehannock, and Mariah Krumrine delivered five kills, 17 assists and eight digs for South Western. Susquehannock won the JV match, 25-6, 25-14.

YORK SUBURBAN 3, WEST YORK 1: At Suburban, the Trojans won, 26-24, 25-20, 21-25, 28-26. Kayla Gibbs, Luci Billet and Morgan Lehman teamed for 40 Suburban kills, and Alexis Gettle delivered 34 assists. Lauren Fink and Dixie Miller recorded 12 kills apiece for West York, and Carissa Stottlemyer supplied 13 assists. West York won the JV match, 25-18, 25-19.

LITTLESTOWN 3, YORK TECH 0: At Spry, the Thunderbolts won, 25-20, 25-18, 25-11. Individually for the Thunderbolts, Taylor Nicol had three kills and eight assists. For the Spartans, Cheyenne Fulcher had four kills, Savannah Grimes had five aces and Adrianna Beattie had three kills. Littlestown won the JV match, 25-10, 25-2.

DELONE CATHOLIC 3, BERMUDIAN SPRINGS 0: At York Springs, the Squirettes won, 25-13, 25-21, and 25-9. For the Squirettes, Allie Mondorff had 21 assists, six kills, five aces and three digs. For the Eagles, Shianne Fisher had nine assists and eight digs. Bermudian won the JV match, 25-23, 25-15.

YORK CATHOLIC 3, HANOVER 2: At Hanover, the Irish won, 25-19, 25-14, 14-25, 24-26, 15-8. For the Hawkettes, Renee Drawbaugh had six aces and eight assists, while Shelby Barnes had six kills, four digs, three aces and four assists. Zandria Zielinski and Kathleen Farrell combined for 13 kills for York Catholic, and Natalie Stewart served seven aces and recorded 18 assists. Hanover won the JV match, 25-23, 25-11.
