State police in Gettysburg are trying to sniff out why someone would have left a dead skunk on the front porch of a vacation home at Lake Heritage.

According to police, the dead skunk was deposited on the porch of a property in the 800 block of Hancock Drive in Mount Pleasant Township, rented by Ken Terrell, 57, of Vienna, Va. It happened sometime between Friday evening and Saturday morning, troopers said.

Lake Heritage is a private lakeside community.
