The sting of being pushed around by Central last year motivated West York going into Friday night's season-opening game against the Panthers.

This time, West York's players pushed back.

The Bulldogs dominated play on both sides of the ball to hand Central a 24-7 defeat.

West York held the Panthers to minus six yards of offense in the first half and just 82 yards for the game.

The Bulldogs, meanwhile, followed the lead of its offensive line to 211 rushing yards and 110 passing yards.

"I thought we played on their line of scrimmage all night, both offensively and defensively," West York head coach Ron Miller said. "Our 'D line and inside backers just pressured him (Central quarterback Corey Hartz) relentlessly. Brock Snellbaker had a big hit early in the game, and we just feed off that stuff. I was really proud of their effort."

The Panthers had to travel just four yards for their touchdown after a West York player touched a punt, and a Central player recovered the ball.

Other than that second-quarter score and extra point which cut the Bulldogs lead to 10-7, the Panthers were stymied the rest of the night.

Kaelin Hunter, Aaron Sowers, Connor Daugherty and Janssen Nelson led the charge for West York's defensive line.

"The guys up front, because of their size, they can push guys around," West York linebacker Devon Fissel said. "That helps a linebacker so much because I get so much more time to read an offensive player."

Fissell stopped a Central drive in the third quarter by recovering a fumble at his own 45-yard line.

"I took a chance, and I got lucky. I was on the ground, and I held that thing (the ball) for dear life."

Fissel said that familiarity also helps the West York D.

"All of us have played together since we were 8 years old. Everyone just does his job. No one gets in anyone else's way, and no one is selfish."

On the offensive side, Brandon Kinneman sparked the Bulldogs by carrying the ball 19 times for 113 yards and a touchdown along with connecting with Zach Smith on a 43-yard TD pass. Snellbaker also scored a TD on a 6-yard run, and Chris Markel booted a 21-yard field goal for the winners.

Kinneman, making his first varsity start at quarterback, consistently made the right reads on the zone read option.

"I didn't know I was going to carry the ball that much, but we were able to take advantage of what they were doing," Kinneman said. "I got all the yardage, but I have to give the credit to the guys up front."

Brody Kern, who earned a Division I scholarship to the University of Delaware, is the leader on the all-senior offensive line.

"Both the O (offense) and D (defense) were hungry tonight," Kinneman said. "The defense was flying around, and even though they (Central) were bringing everyone, we were still picking up four-yard and five-yard gains.

The offensive line made one final push: a fourth-quarter march that consumed nearly eight of the 12 minutes.

The drive didn't result in a touchdown, but the guys in the trenches made sure that Central had very little time to try and mount a comeback.

"This place (Central's stadium) is awesome, and it will be a memory for the rest of my life," Kinneman said. "We'll celebrate tonight, but by tomorrow, we'll start getting ready for Dallastown."
