Defense Logistics Agency Distribution Susquehanna is a step closer to having its new headquarters.

A Chicago-based construction company was awarded an $81 million contract this week to build the defense contractor's new center, according to Senior Executive Service Member William H. Budden, deputy commander at the base.

The Fairview Township-based agency is building the new headquarters to consolidate more than 900 employees, who are scattered across five buildings, into one building, he said.

Construction will begin this fall, and the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design-certified project is expected to be completed in September 2015.
