Chris Cody took a shutout into the eighth inning to help the York Revolution salvage their series finale at Southern Maryland on Wednesday night with a 4-1 win over the Blue Crabs at Regency Furniture Stadium.
The win ends a three-game losing streak for the Revs, who remained within 41/2 games of first place in the Atlantic League Freedom Division, and increased their wild-card lead to 51/2 games.
York opens an eight-game homestand at 6:30 Thursday night with a rain makeup game against the Camden Riversharks.
Cody (10-12) allowed one run on six hits in seven-plus innings. He held a shutout intact until the last batter he faced, allowing only a solo homer to Kevin Rios leading off the bottom of the eighth. Before that
The win is the sixth in seven decisions for Cody, who tossed his seventh consecutive quality start. He now owns a 1.72 ERA over his last seven outings.
York grabbed an early lead in the second inning when Jeff Fiorentino blooped an RBI single into left. It was part of a three-hit night for Fiorentino.
The Revs plated three runs in the fifth to make it a 4-0 score. Travis Scott led off with a double down the left-field line, increasing his hitting streak to six consecutive games. Scott advanced to third on a lineout to center by Brandon Haveman. Ramon Castro then lined an RBI single into center and Joe Thurston nailed a long two-run homer high off the right-field foul pole, his fourth of the season.
York relievers R.J. Rodriguez and Ricardo Gomez (10th save) combined to retire the final six batters of the game to secure the win, the Revs' first in six contests in Waldorf, Md., this season.
Crabs starter Matthew Vasquez (9-7), previously 3-0 against York for the year, suffered the loss, charged with all four York runs on 10 hits in seven innings.
York caps its six-game road trip with a 2-4 record.
Lefty Ryan Feierabend (7-3, 2.25) faces Camden's Keith Weiser (7-8, 4.02) in Thursday's contest.
