Big Lots will soon open its third store in York County.

The discount retailer is moving into Springettsbury Township at 2980 Whiteford Road in the former Circuit City location, according to John Holman, township manager.

A help-wanted sign went was posted at the property Wednesday afternoon, alerting passers-by the store would be opening soon.

Company executives did not return correspondence seeking an opening date.

The chain has two other stores in York County - at 2140 White St. in West Manchester Township and 1150 Carlisle St. in Hanover.

Big Lots opened 18 new stores during the second quarter of the year, according to the company website.

Each of those stores created about 45 new jobs in their respective communities, according to the site.

Across the country, there are more than 1,500 Big Lots locations. Those stores sell brand-name, closeout bargains, including home goods, furniture, health and beauty products, toys, seasonal items, groceries and more, according to the site.

The new Springettsbury Township store will occupy the 32, 500 square-foot facility left vacant by the former Ultimate Electronics, Holman said.

Ultimate Electronics was open there from August 2010 until February 2011, when its parent company Ultimate Acquisition Partners filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, he said. Prior to that, the space housed other stores, including Circuit City, he said.
