When officers arrived at a Conewago Township neighborhood early Sunday morning for a report of a man stealing items from parked vehicles, there wasn't much investigating left to do.

That's because two neighbors chased down the thief, caught him and held him down until police showed up, said Northern York County Regional Police Lt. David Lash.

"We don't normally encourage residents to take matters into their own hands," he said. "But in this case they evaluated the situation and felt it was safe to approach this man and hold him down until officers got there."

No one was hurt.

"They did a nice job," Lash said of the neighbors, both adult men.

Lash said 19-year-old Jeremy Todd Wildasin stole all kinds of items from at least seven parked vehicles. When officers arrested him shortly before 4 a.m. Sunday at the corner of Dietz Estates Drive and Graffius Road, his pockets were stuffed with GPS units, MP3 players, cash, jewelry, change and sunglasses, police allege.

Wildasin's home at 315 Westwood Drive is just a couple streets away from where he was spotted by neighbors, police said.

He remains in York County Prison on $10,000 bail, charged with theft, receiving stolen property, loitering and prowling at nighttime, public drunkenness, disorderly conduct and underage drinking.
