The state's Department of Agriculture conducts yearly inspections of food-serving establishments to ensure public safety and safe food-handling practices. Schools are inspected twice per year, according to the Bureau of Food Safety and Laboratories.

Whether an establishment is considered compliant or non-compliant is the discretion of the inspector. There are, however, several violations for which inspectors should automatically consider establishments non-compliant. Called "critical violations," they include food temperature issues, issues with chemicals and how they're handled, and employee hygiene.

Depending on the severity of the situation, inspectors and their supervisors could file citations or close an establishment.

Below is a list of establishments listed for inspections conducted July 24 to July 31.

OUT OF COMPLIANCE

El Papi's, 223 Fulton St., York.

Action: Violations included presence of insects and/or rodents; improperly labeled containers; products not held at proper temperatures; food left unprotected; personnel did not exhibit good hygienic practices; non-food contact surfaces not properly maintained; non-food contact surfaces unclean; equipment and utensils stored unclean; premises not properly maintained.

Action: Violations included food not held in sound condition, without spoilage; containers not properly labeled; personnel did not exhibit good hygienic practices; non-food contact surfaces not properly maintained; plumbing not properly maintained; toilet rooms lack proper necessities; walls, ceilings and attached equipment are not clean and/or in good repair; toxic items are not properly stored, labeled and used; premises are not well maintained.
