Sitting in the renovated dining room of Bubba D's Pizza & Wings, owner Dustin McClintic said even the people who don't like crust will eat his.

"It's all about the garlic sauce," he said.

Garlic sauce is brushed on the crusts of his hand-tossed pizzas, often yielding compliments from customers of the new Shrewsbury restaurant, he said.

After spending nine years as a manager of the former Soprano's pizzeria in York Township, McClintic opened Bubba D's this summer in a factory building at 39 E. Forrest Ave.

"This was always my dream. And when you have a dream, you try to make it possible," McClintic said.

When he took over the address that for 20 years belonged to the former Aldo's Pizza, he gave it a thorough cleaning, new carpet, shelving, wi-fi, a large screen TV and a revamped menu.

Among its arsenal of 16 flavors of fried or boneless wings, honey barbecue, Old Bay and rodeo ranch reign supreme as top sellers.

Also popular are the grand opening specials: a 16-inch cheese pizza for $7.99; a 10-inch, one-topping pizza for $5.99; and a 16-inch cheese pizza with 12 wings and a two-liter bottle of soda for $18.99.

Crab nights: Additionally, the space makes use of its outdoor seating on weekends, hosting crab nights on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. From 4 to 9 p.m., crabs are $1.25 each. Those events are also BYOB.

"I'm trying to keep my prices low. I'm not about taking the last penny. The economy is tough, and I want customers to be able to come in for a nice dinner one day and be able to come back another day too," McClintic said.

To further help customers save, Bubba D's offers pizza business cards. Customers earn one card with each dine-in and take-out order. For every 10 collected, they will receive a free, large cheese pizza, he said.

And first responders receive even more discounts, he said. All military, firefighters, EMS workers and police officers in uniform, or who present identification, will receive an additional 10 percent off their orders.

"It's a little way to thank them. They put their lives on the line for us. Why not give something in return?" he said.
