Ocean City (Md.) Police on Saturday arrested two York area men who were in a car reported stolen out of Spring Garden Township.
Police arrested Aaron Lloyd Canterbury, 30, of the York area and Jimmy Carl Anderson, 22, of New Park after a vehicle pursuit on the boardwalk.
Two other passengers were detained by police.
The 2007 Dodge Magnum was stolen during a series of thefts from vehicles in the Wyndham Hills area that were reported to police at 6:55 a.m. on Friday.
Spring Garden Township Police have not yet charged Canterbury and Anderson in relation to the stolen car and thefts, according to online court documents.
Thefts: All told, items were stolen from eight vehicles, said Chief George Swartz.
Stolen
were garage door openers, cellphones, cash, prescription drugs and other items, police said.A number of the items were recovered from the Dodge by Ocean City Police, Swartz said.
"In that vehicle were a lot of the items stolen from those vehicles," he said.
The Dodge was reported stolen from the 1100 block of Wyndham Drive after someone entered the home and removed keys to the car, police said.
As police were investigating the thefts, another resident of the 110 block of Wyndham Drive found a 2008 Ford Escape in his home's driveway.
The SUV was stolen during a burglary at a home in the 8900 block of Camp Road in North Hopewell Township on July 16.
After the SUV was stolen, the male suspect, described as a white man between the ages of 20 and 25 with short brown hair, drove to Lutz and Grove Mills roads in East Hopewell Township, where items were stolen from a number of unlocked vehicles, state police had said.
Arrested: Ocean City Police officers attempted to stop the Dodge Magnum Anderson was driving, but he fled from police and drove the car onto the boardwalk, forcing people out of the way, Ocean City Police said.
When the car re-entered the street, three passengers, including Canterbury, leapt from the car. Police detained the men and arrested Canterbury for possession of marijuana, ecstasy and drug paraphernalia, police said.
Anderson continued to flee in the car and drove back onto the boardwalk before returning to the streets, where he crashed through a fence and drove through a backyard, police said.
He then stopped the car just short of a canal and jumped into the water. He was arrested when he climbed out of the water, police said.
Police found suspected marijuana and prescription drugs on Anderson and controlled substances inside the car.
Charges: Anderson is charged in Maryland with theft of a motor vehicle, theft over $10,000, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, escape, possession of drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia, as well as two counts of malicious destruction of property over $500. He also received 30 traffic violations, police said.
Anderson was seen by an Ocean City District Court Commissioner and was held without bond. Canterbury was also seen by a court commissioner and released on his own recognizance, police said.
