There are a lot of stories in the naked city. On Tuesday afternoon, newspaper carrier Barb Spangler witnessed one in the suburbs -- and in the flesh.

Spangler, of York Township, was delivering papers for The York Dispatch when she saw a nude man on School Street near both York Township Park and York Area Regional Police headquarters on Oak Road.

"There was a man walking there naked on the yellow line," she said. "He was totally naked. No shoes, nothing. And that asphalt was hot."

Spangler said she called York County 911 and also alerted a passing York Area officer, but the officer already knew about the naked man.

Shortly before Spangler spotted him, another witness saw the naked man and drove to the police station to report the incident, according to Officer Pete Montgomery, a York Area Regional spokesman. That was about 2:10 p.m.

'Disoriented': Officers were able to take the 23-year-old York County man into custody without incident, Montgomery said.

"He was in a yard by the time we got to him. He was told to lay down and he did," the officer said. "He was definitely disoriented, and it appeared he had some mental difficulties.

"He most likely did not know where he was," Montgomery said.

Officers covered the man with a yellow tarp and led him to a waiting ambulance, according to Spangler.

Montgomery said the man was taken to York Hospital for evaluation.

Spangler also delivers papers for the York Daily Record but said she's never seen anything that exciting on her morning paper route.

Officers found the man's clothing in a wooded area of York Township Park, Montgomery said.

It appeared the man didn't have a care in the world, according to Spangler.

"He wasn't a bad-looking guy, either," she said.
