Two men tried, but failed, to rob a 10-year-old girl of the four-wheeler she was riding in York City on Monday night.

The girl, who lives on North Newberry Street, was riding a motorized four-wheeler in the 300 block of Grant Street about 8:10 p.m. when she was approached by two men, York City Police said.

Police said witnesses reported the men were between the ages of 18 and 22 and rode BMX-style bicycles from the direction of Williams Park.

One of the men said to the girl, "If you don't get off, I'm gonna shoot you," then grabbed her by the arms and physically pulled her off the four-wheeler, police said.

The man got on the vehicle and tried to drive away with it, but accidentally turned it off and was unable to get it restarted, police said.

Both men then jumped back on their bicycles and took off toward Williams Park.

Anyone with information about the attempted robbery is asked to call detectives at 849-2219, or call the city's anonymous crime tip line, 849-2204. Or anonymously text a tip to YORKTIPS at 847411.
