A good deed did not go unpunished for a Good Samaritan last week.

A man, whose name was not released, reported to Northeastern Regional Police at 7:39 a.m. Friday that he had been carjacked by a hitchhiker.

The man was on his way home from the Wago Club in East Manchester Township when he picked up the hitchhiker, according to police.

A short time later, the hitchhiker pulled out a gun and ordered the man out of the car, police said.

The man ran into a wooded area and hid for about two hours, police.

Police found the car crashed into a tree in the 200 block of Buck Road in Conewago Township. Inside the car, officers found suspected drugs, police said.

Police are advising everyone to never pick up strangers when driving.

"Approximately 49,000 attempted and completed carjackings take place each year in the United States," police said.

Anyone with information about the East Manchester Township carjacking is asked to contact police through 911.
