A Wednesday evening fire in Hanover destroyed two garages and a vehicle parked inside and damaged nearby homes and vehicles.

Hanover Fire Department was called to a garage to the rear of 129 Pleasant St. around 7:30 p.m. for fire that had spread to the adjoining garage behind 127 Pleasant St., said Capt. Anthony Clousher.

It took crews about 20 minutes to contain the fire, the smoke from which could be seen miles away, Clousher said.

"It drew quite the crowd," he said. "I'm sure if you YouTube it, you'll see cell phone videos."

The cause of the fire is under investigation by Hanover Police Department, he said.

He said two vehicles parked outside the garage were damaged, as were four homes that sit across the alley. Nearby garages were also damaged, he said.

He estimated the damage at $50,000.
