John J. Romano

Less than a year after taking over as chancellor of the Penn State York campus, Lisa Ann Plowfield has resigned her position.

She will remain chancellor until the end of July, spokeswoman Barbara Dennis said.

John J. Romano, the university's former vice president for commonwealth campuses and the former CEO at Penn State York, will come out of retirement to lead the campus until a new chancellor is named.

A national search for a replacement will begin in the fall, according to a news release.

Plowfield, a Lititz native, took the top job at Penn State York in August 2011, replacing Joel Rodney.

The university did not indicate a reason for Plowfield's resignation. Reached by phone, Dennis declined to elaborate.

Plowfield could not be reached for comment.

"We wish her well," Dennis said.

Romano was CEO of the York campus from 1985 to 1993 before moving on to serve as the university's vice provost and dean for enrollment management and administration. He served as vice president for commonwealth campuses from 2005 to 2010.
