Motorists traveling Route 181 through Manchester borough could experience delays now that a project to repair and repave 1.4 miles of the road has started, PennDOT said.

The project extends from about 300 feet north of Sunset Drive in East Manchester Township to about 100 feet north of Parkview Road in Manchester Borough. Route 181 through the borough is known as Main Street.

About 15,000 vehicles travel that portion of Main Street on a daily basis and in order not to affect commuters, there will be no traffic lane restrictions between 6 and 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 and 6 p.m., PennDOT said.

At other times of the day, Main Street might be restricted to a single lane with flaggers assisting motorists through the work area.

PennDOT has contracted with Pennsy Supply, Inc. of Annville to perform the work at a cost of about $870,000. Work began Thursday with base repair. The project is scheduled to finish in late October.
