Yikeem Williams (submitted)

An arrest warrant has been issued for a man wanted in connection with a hit-and-run involving a West York Police officer.

Yikeem Williams, 24, whose address is not known, is wanted on an escape charge, according to borough police.

On Saturday, an officer on foot patrol saw Williams urinating in a parking lot in the first block of Overbrook Avenue. When the officer tried to stop Williams, he jumped into a silver BMW driven by Jose Yomar Leon-Ortiz, 23, of Spring Garden Township, police said.

Leon-Ortiz then allegedly struck the officer with the car. The officer escaped serious injury by partially jumping out of the way but suffered minor injuries to his hands and arms.

U.S. Marshals arrested Leon-Ortiz in York City on Monday on charges stemming from the incident.

Williams was to turn himself into police earlier this week but failed to do so, police said.

Anyone with information about the whereabouts of Williams is asked to call police at 854-1975.
