A Hallam man was killed Tuesday afternoon in a one-vehicle crash in Windsor Township, officials said.

Tyler Helton, 19, of the 200 block of West Market Street, died of multiple blunt-force injuries, according to York County Deputy Coroner Steve Cosey, who has ruled the death an accident. No autopsy is planned, he said.

The crash happened about 1 p.m. on Craley Road between Gebhart and Bahns Mill roads when Helton's westbound SUV went off the road, down a 6- to 8-foot embankment and struck a tree, according to York Area Regional Police Sgt. Jeff Dunbar.

Extrication: It took about two hours for rescue crews to get Helton's body out of the SUV.

"They (were) trying to get the vehicle up on the roadway before they extricate(d) the victim," Dunbar said at the scene.

Helton was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, Cosey said.

A little after 3 p.m., an ambulance arrived and took the body from the scene.

Dunbar said speed appears to have been a factor in the wreck, although he noted it's still early in the investigation.

A neighbor called 911 after hearing the SUV crash, he said.

A full accident reconstruction is being done, Dunbar said.
