A York City man escaped injury when he was robbed at gunpoint by three men Monday morning -- one of whom fired a shot during the stickup, police said.
Ramon Otero-Gonzalez, 44, of West Market Street, was walking in the 500 block of West Mason Avenue when he was robbed about 5:10 a.m.
Police said a green Chevrolet Malibu stopped near him and three men got out. One of them pointed a small-caliber handgun at Otero-Gonzalez and demanded cash, police said.
He gave the robbers his wallet, which held $22 cash and his identification, then started running away and took out his cell phone to call 911, police said.
That's when he realized one of the robbers was chasing him, and he heard a gunshot.
Police said Otero-Gonzalez wasn't sure whether the gunman fired at him or in the air.
The gunman is a thin black man with a dark complexion, 20 to 22 years old, about 5-feet-6, wearing black shorts and a white T-shirt, police said. The other two robbers with him were in the same age range and both had white shirts covering their faces.
Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call detectives at 849-2219, or call the city's anonymous crime tip line, 849-2204. Or anonymously text a tip to YORKTIPS at 847411.
