William Coe shouted a warning as he rushed through the crowd at the Gettysburg re-enactment Saturday.
"Watch out, we have a civilian thief," he called to the sutlers.
Moments earlier, a replica Civil War saber and rare Colt revolver were stolen out of the tent of Bob Hutchison, an Altoona re-enactor who portrays a Union officer at Gettysburg.
The revolver, worth several hundred dollars, was a replica of an 1850s model and crafted in Italy. It's unique for the octagonal barrel, Hutchison said. Most pistols have a round barrel.
The thief, identified by Coe as a "civilian in a floppy-brimmed hat," also stole an officer's belt containing a replica saber and owned by Hutchison, who estimates the items are worth nearly $800.
