Moviegoers hoping to get a beer at Frank Theatres in York Township are back in luck.

The liquor license that, for nearly four months, had been inactive at the Queensgate movie hub has now been restored, according to Kevin Scott, general manager at the theater.

Since last Tuesday, the theater has been able to serve alcohol, and its liquor license is valid until its renewal date in 2013, according to the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board.

The theater's Starlite Café is hosting happy hour from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday, marking appetizers at half price. Drink specials include two domestic beers for $4 and two imported beers for $7. Special cocktails are also $1 off, Scott said.

Scott said he did not know the circumstances surrounding the theater's inactive liquor license.

Last month, Stacey Witalec, spokeswoman for the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board, said the change came after Frank Theaters applied to renew its liquor license and did not receive clearances from the state Department of Revenue.

As part of the liquor licensing process - for both new applicants and renewals - the Department of Revenue performs tax clearances in association with tax compliance, which is required to get the license.

Reasons why an applicant would be denied include everything from unfiled tax returns to unpaid taxes, according to Elizabeth Brassell, spokeswoman for the state Department of Revenue.

Legally, she could not disclose why Frank Theatres did not receive clearances.

Several calls to the theater's Florida headquarters, seeking comment, were not returned.
