Yorkers have checks in the mail, or on the way to their bank accounts for direct deposit.

The state announced Thursday that people approved for the Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program should receive their payments next week.

About 505,000 property tax and rent rebates will be issued July 2, a day later than the usual July 1 because that falls on a Sunday this year, State Treasurer Rob McCord said in a press release.

The maximum rebate is $650, and Pennsylvanians are eligible if they're age 65 and older, a widow or widower age 50 and older, or have disabilities.

The income limit is $35,000 a year for homeowners and $15,000 annually for renters, and half of Social Security income is excluded.

The deadline to apply for the rebate program - for rebates on property taxes or rent paid in 2011 - has been extended to Dec. 31. Applications are available at www.revenue.state.pa.us, by calling 1-888-222-9190, or by contacting a Department of Revenue district office, a local Area Agency on Aging, senior centers and state legislators' offices.

Statewide, the payments total nearly $238 million, McCord said.
