Movie buffs seeking a larger screen, clearer picture and better sound will get their wish when an IMAX theater opens at Frank Theatres in November.

The York Township movie hub at 2081 Springwood Road is among a list of 10 cinemas in the Frank chain to receive the new attractions, New York-based IMAX Corp. announced Wednesday.

"Everybody likes IMAX because of how big the screen is," said Kevin Scott, general manager of the Frank's location in York Township.

The curved screen at Frank's will stretch from floor to ceiling and wall to wall, he said.

The debut: Most likely, the first movie to debut on that screen will be "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2," which is set to hit theaters Nov. 16, he said.

"The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey," which opens Dec. 14, is another movie he expects will do well in IMAX.

In addition to the IMAX screen planned here, locations will also open in Southern Pines, N.C., Delray Beach, Fla., and Northfield, N.J. Two additional theaters will also open in Ranson, W.Va., and Kingsport, Tenn., in May 2013, and four more locations will be announced later, IMAX said.

The additions will also be a boost to Frank Theatres, CEO Bruce Frank said in the statement.

"With ... the most immersive movie-going experience available and a slate of the biggest Hollywood event films, we're

confident that IMAX will be a hit with our guests, drive increased attendance and help position us for long-term success," he said.

County's first: Frank Theatres will offer the first IMAX theater in York County.

Currently, the closest IMAX theater to York is in Dauphin County at the Whitaker Center for Science & the Arts at 222 Market St. in Harrisburg.

Tickets to IMAX movies usually cost a little more than regular sales. For example, a ticket at the Whitaker for an upcoming viewing of "The Dark Knight Rises" in IMAX will cost $13.50, a box office receptionist said.

Frank Theatres has not yet set prices for its new IMAX offerings.

Regular movie prices there range from $6 for an early bird viewing to $9 for an evening showing.
