Spring Garden Township Police are encouraging vehicle owners to remove valuables from their vehicles, or keep items out of sight, such as in the trunk, after two recent break ins.

A GPS unit was stolen from a silver Volkswagen Jetta that was parked in a parking lot in the 300 block of South Belmont Street. The GPS unit is valued at $160, police said.

The theft happened sometime between 11 p.m. Tuesday and 2 a.m. Wednesday.

A backpack containing an Apple MacBook Pro laptop and a GPS unit was stolen from a Pontiac Grand Prix that was parked in a parking lot in the 500 block of State Street. That theft happened sometime between 11:30 p.m. Tuesday and 1 a.m. Wednesday, police said.

The combined value of the laptop and the GPS unit is $2,750.

In both incidents, the items were in plain view and the driver's side windows were broken out, police said.
