Nick Spangler's one-out single in the top of the sixth inning scored Austin Hunt to snap a 5-5 tie and lift Spring Grove to a 6-5 victory at Dover in a York-Adams American Legion baseball game.
Hunt reached on an error and moved to second on Colton Murphy's sacrifice bunt.
Jake Thoman, who entered in relief during the fifth inning, earned the victory. Thoman was outstanding in his three innings of work, not yielding any runs and just one hit. He struck out one and walked one.
Hunt and Murphy cracked doubles for Spring Grove, and Brandon Warner and Dalton Hoiles belted triples.
Ross Drawbaugh had a big game for Dover, collecting three hits, including a double, and driving in three runs.
Both teams had a four-run inning, Spring Grove in the fourth and Dover in the fifth.
The visitors improved to 7-1-0, and the home team fell to 4-6-1.
OTHER LEGION BASEBALL
NORTHEASTERN 13, SUBURBAN YORK 2: At Manchester, Jesse Sargen's hitting and pitching highlighted Northeastern's one-sided victory. Sargen went 3-for-3, drove in four runs and scored two. On the mound, he worked the first three innings, allowing only one run. Sargen struck out three and walked two. Logan Fries pitched the fourth and fifth innings for the winners, yielding just one run. Grant Myers drove in two runs for Northeastern, which sent 11 batters to the plate during a seven-run second inning. Mark Burnside turned in a 3-for-3 performance at the plate for Suburban York. The umpires halted the game after 41/2 innings because of the 10-run mercy rule.
WRIGHTSVILLE 5, DILLSBURG 4: At Wrightsville, the home team plated two runs in the bottom of the sixth to take the lead and went on to win the game. James Guiseppe led the Wrightsville offense with a double, while teammate Kyle Billet picked up the win on the mound in relief, pitching 21/3 innings of shutout baseball.
BERMUDIAN SPRINGS 11, SHILOH 9: At Shiloh, Bermudian plated three runs in the seventh, with Ben Thomas driving in the tying run and Trevor Yinger belting a two-run double. Joe Prego took the loss for Shiloh, but helped his own cause with a double and a single. Brock Gladfelter added two singles.
HANOVER 11, STEWARTSTOWN 9: At Fawn Grove, Hanover outlasted winless Stewartstown, thanks largely to a six-run fifth inning. Ryan Kehr led Hanover with three hits, while Kai Hess and Tyler Green added two hits apiece.
NEW OXFORD 19, YORK 3: At New Oxford, Conrad Miller led the home team, going 3-for-3, including two doubles, and picking up five RBIs. Cody Pieper belted two doubles, scored three runs and drove in two.
