The Spring Grove Area school board approved a new student athletic coordinator at last week's meeting.

Board members approved Scott Govern to the position currently being held by Jacob Slagle. Slagle recently tendered his resignation. His final day is June 30.

Govern will earned $83,000 for the 2012-2013 school year.

He now serves as the athletic director for South Middleton School District in Boiling Springs. He has held that position since 2000. He received his bachelor's degree from Lock Haven University and his master's degree in athletic administration from Western Maryland College and is a certified athletic administrator.

Following his appointment, Govern said he has big plans for the district.

"It's a blue-collar community. I came from a blue-collar community in New Jersey. What being a blue-collar community tells me is that you have kids who are fighters," said Govern. "I think Spring Grove is a diamond in the rough."

Depending on his final date with South Middleton, Govern could start as soon as July 1.
