Craig Diehl has been named the No. 1 seed in the men's singles draw for 93rd annual York City-County Tennis Tournament, which is set to begin Tuesday evening.
Jim Kohr, the nine-time defending champion, is not in the field this season because of a family vacation. As a result, the tournament will have a new champion for the first time since 2002, when Diehl won the last of his 10 titles.
The men's singles field of 16 will be led by Diehl, No. 2 seed Phil Myers, No. 3 seed Ben Nace and No. 4 seed Craig Hildebrand. Other than Diehl, none of the men's players in the field have ever before reached the final. Myers and Dave Kline are the only former semifinalists in the field.
If the seeds hold, the semifinals would pit Diehl vs. Hildebrand and Nace vs. Myers.
The first-round matchups are: Craig Diehl vs. Doug Graby; Rex Teodosio vs. Phil Plank; Hildebrand vs. Elliot Diehl; Nate Gambino vs. Kyle Salaga; Mark O'Reilly vs. Mike McNulty; Chris Barnes vs. Nace; Kline vs. Scott Naylor; and Bryan Group vs. Myers.
Tuesday's opening matches at 6 p.m. at Farquhar Park will pit Craig Diehl vs. Graby, Teodosio vs. Plank, Hildebrand vs. Elliot Diehl and Gambino vs. Salaga.
Information on other draws will follow at a later date.
