Corey Thurman combined on the York Revolution's second shutout in as many games, helping the Revs defeat the Somerset Patriots 1-0 in front of 5,529 fans at TD Bank Ballpark in Bridgewater, N.J., on Thursday evening.
The Revs, winners of three consecutive games, remained within 51/2 games of first-place Lancaster in the Atlantic League Freedom Division.
Thurman (5-1) scattered six singles in his seven shutout innings, walking just one and striking out four.
Somerset's Doug Arguello carried a no-hitter into the sixth when Scott Grimes ripped a one-out double down the left-field line. Ramon Castro then drove an RBI double to deep left, scoring Grimes for the game's lone run.
Thurman's only base runners all night reached with two outs until Aaron Mathews singled to left with one out in the seventh. Freddy Sandoval followed with a single to right, and it appeared the Patriots were poised to tie the score, but right fielder Michael Hernandez made the defensive play of the night with a perfect one-hop throw to third to nail Mathews for the second out. Thurman then struck out Adam Donachie to finish his outing.
York's Adam Thomas recorded an inning-ending fielder's choice with the tying run at second in a scoreless eighth. R.J. Rodriguez tossed a perfect ninth for his ninth save.
Arguello (3-2) took the loss despite his superb eight-inning performance, allowing just one run on three hits. He did walk five, but also recorded five strikeouts.
