Police are looking for a would-be robber who hopped the counter at a Red Lion bank Thursday morning but left when he found the cash drawer empty.

At 9:11 a.m., a man wearing mask over his face and a gray hooded sweatshirt entered the Sovereign Bank branch at 880 W. Broadway, according to York Area Regional Police. He told a teller he wanted money, then hopped the counter and opened a drawer, said officer Peter Montgomery.

Finding the drawer empty, he left, on foot with no money, Montgomery said.

He is described as a white male in his 30s or 40s, about 5-feet-8.

Police are still investigating whether a gold, late-model Honda with a loud muffler was related to the attempted robbery. Montgomery said the vehicle had tape over the license plate and and was spotted on Country Club Road, near the bank, around the time of the attempted robbery.

Anyone with information about the attempted robbery or the mans identity is asked to call police at 741-1259, or call 911.
