Ray Knight, the Most Valuable Player of the 1986 World Series, and Mark Moseley, who in 1982 became the only placekicker ever to be named MVP in the NFL, are among the latest stars to commit to an appearance at the 24th annual York County Special Olympics Celebrity Golf Classic.

The event is set for Monday, June 18, at Out Door Country Club.

They join former Baltimore Oriole Joe Orsulak and Syracuse University assistant men's basketball coach Adrian Autry on the updated list of attending celebrities.

Foursome openings still exist. The cost per foursome is $1,100, which includes lunch, dinner and a round of golf with a celebrity. To learn more, call Jeff Grove, 755-1611.

Two celebrities who previously indicated they would attend the event have since had to drop out because of scheduling conflicts: former Baltimore Orioles catcher Chris Hoiles and Syracuse assistant basketball coach Gerry McNamara.

Knight is a two-time Major League All-Star, likely best remembered by Cincinnati Reds fans as the man who replaced Pete Rose at third base. Mets fans remember him as the man who scored the winning run of Game 6 of the 1986 World Series and was named MVP of that series.

Moseley was a three-time Pro Bowl selection, a Super Bowl champion and is the Washington Redskins' all-time leading scorer.

The tournament was founded by George Tarasovic, a 12-year NFL veteran, and Eddie Khayat, the former head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles whose nine-year NFL playing career was highlighted by the Eagles' 1960 NFL title victory. Both will attend.

Also planning to attend are former NBA star and current Villanova assistant coach Doug West; former Philadelphia Eagles Maxie Baughan, a nine-time Pro Bowler, and five-time Pro Bowler Pete Retzlaff, as well as the Eagles' current offensive quality control coach Matt Nagy; former Baltimore Colts Sam Havrilak, Lou Michaels, and Glenn Ressler; former Baltimore Oriole and current O's broadcaster Dave Johnson; Washington Nationals broadcaster Johnny Holliday; and legendary Franklin and Marshall college basketball coach Glenn Robinson.

Local celebrities who plan to attend are former Philadelphia Eagle Scott Fitzkee (Red Lion grad) and veteran NCAA basketball official Duke Edsall (Susquehannock grad).

YORK COUNTY TEAM WINS SHIPPENSBURG EVENT: The team of Robin Ness, Tom Pokopec, Matt Dellinger and Randy Rupp won the 24th annual Shippensburg Alumni golf tournament, shooting a 15 under 56 at the Carlisle Country Club on Thursday. All members of the team grew up in York County.
