Free injury screenings will be offered in Hanover to help identify athletes who are the most at risk for knee injuries this season.

SPORT Center Physical Therapy will offer the free screenings from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday, June 12 at the Hanover Area YMCA, 500 George St. in Hanover.

Each screening takes 10 minutes and looks at characteristics associated with injuries such as postural alignment, hamstring strength and flexibility, and the athlete's technique for squatting, hopping and jumping.

The goal of the free event is to recognize athletes who are most at risk for ACL tears and help them to take a proactive approach in protecting themselves. ACL tears usually require surgery and result in missed seasons and potential long-term problems.

Middle school, high school and college students and their parents are welcome to attend.

SPORT Center Physical Therapy will also offer an ACL injury prevention camp at the Hanover YMCA from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesdays and Thursdays from June 12 through July 26. The conditioning camp will focus on proper warm-up, stretching, strengthening, plyometrics and agility exercises to address potential deficits.

The camp costs $115 for YMCA members and $160 for non-members.
