The Art Institute of York -- Pennsylvania is giving local students a chance to have a creative summer.

The institute will run its Summer Studio program from Wednesday, June 20, to Friday, June 22. The program is open to high school juniors and seniors.

The workshops are graphic design, interior design, media arts and animation, web design and interactive media, and fashion and retail management.

Students will receive guidance from instructors who specialize in the workshop topics. They also will complete final projects.

Workshops will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on June 20 and June 21, and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on June 22, said Mandy Wilson, the institute's regional public relations coordinator.

The registration deadline is Monday, June 4. The camp costs $150 per student, Wilson said. Students can register online at summerstudio.com/york.

About 50 local students attend the Summer Studio annually, Wilson said.

The workshops are non-credit bearing and do not transfer into any of the institute's programs.

However, students can use the experience to determine whether the institute would be the right educational place for them after high school graduation, Wilson said.

"It gives them an opportunity to see if creative education is what they want to pursue," she said.
