Seven Valleys has another thriving business to add to its character and entice visitors. Gung Ho Bikes celebrated the grand opening of its second location on Sunday.

Their new location in the middle of the Heritage Rail Trail in Seven Valleys is in the building that formerly housed Serenity Station.

Gung Ho Bikes on the trail offers bicycle rentals, as well as child seats and tag-a-longs. It also repairs and sells bicycles, and serves ice cream, drinks and snacks.

Owners Jay and Penny Zech are still finalizing the official hours, but plan to be open 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the weekends.

The Zechs originally ran an outdoors store in York, but decided to specialize in bicycles

"Biking is by far my favorite, which brings me to why I should have started a ski shop," Jay Zech joked, referring to the gorgeous bicycling weather he misses while working. "But I love my job."

Grand opening: Crowds gathered on Sunday for free hot dogs at the grand opening and watched more than 500 runners from the Bob Potts Marathon make their way past the shop in the morning on their way to the finish.

Zech said many runners will eventually turn to bicycling as their go-to sport when running-induced injuries kick in.

"If people can think back to the first time that their mother let them ride a bike, and that freedom they felt, there's nothing like it," said Zech. "That freedom that you felt as a kid is still there, you just have to get on your saddle and go."

Selling expensive bikes does not compare to the satisfaction of watching people rediscover the joy of cycling, he said.
