Eating fruits and vegetables will be a little cheaper for York seniors again this year.

The Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program is open to York County senior citizens who meet certain eligibility requirements.

York County residents 60 or older who have a total income of $20,665 or below as an individual or $27,991 or below as a household are eligible for the fruit and vegetable vouchers. All income is included when determining total gross income.

The $20 vouchers can be used between June 1 and Nov. 30 to buy fresh fruits and vegetables at a list of participating local farm markets.

To obtain vouchers, proof of age and York County residency must be provided.

One person may pick up vouchers for no more than four people, and a Farmers Market Proxy Form is also needed. The form can be downloaded from the forms and document page at www.ycaaa.org.

Nursing home and personal care facilities residents are ineligible to receive the vouchers.

For more information, contact the York County Area Agency on Aging at (717)771-9610. The program is being offered in conjunction with the state Department of Agriculture.
