Karen Comery, York County's chief deputy prosecutor for litigation, is no longer working in the district attorney's office, DA Tom Kearney confirmed.

"Anyone in our office works at the pleasure of the district attorney," he said, adding Comery did nothing illegal. "Beyond that, it's a personnel matter. That's all I'm going to say."

Comery also declined to discuss specifics of her departure, which happened this week.

"I worked extremely hard at my job and I am proud of what I was able to accomplish," Comery said. "My personal integrity means a great deal to me."

Comery became a York County prosecutor in 2003. As chief deputy prosecutor, she supervised about 20 prosecutors and was legal adviser to the county's Drug Task Force and Quick Response Team. She also supervised the special-case and juvenile units of the DA's office, among other duties.

"The police put their lives on the line ... to keep citizens safe," Comery said. "I gave them my unwavering support in the courtroom, as well as to the QRT and the York County Drug Task Force."

Prosecutor David Sunday has been promoted to Comery's old job, Kearney confirmed.
