A barn in Lower Windsor Township was a total loss after a two-alarm fire Wednesday morning.

East Prospect Fire Chief Jerry Hanson said the cause has not been determined, but that there are no indications that it would be anything but accidental.

Located at the intersection of Willow Creek Road and Meisenhelder Road, the barn was surrounded by a few smaller structures that suffered some heat damage, said Hanson. He said the property belongs to Baron Abel.

One firefighter from Hellam Fire Co. was transported to the hospital for heat exhaustion, but was treated and released, said Hanson.

A dog was rescued from a kennel close to the barn, and the horse that stays in the barn was out in the pasture when the fire occurred, Hanson said. He said that several vehicles were also stored in the 40 by 40 foot structure, and estimates of the damage were still being determined.

Sixteen fire companies responded to the call, including two from Lancaster County. Hazmat was called to the scene for a small oil leak, said Hanson.

Someone driving by the property called in the fire at about 10:30 a.m., Hanson said.
