RED LION -- Ryan Knisely was spent physically and emotionally following Tuesday afternoon's Red Lion-South Western boys' track-and-field meet.

Knisely did some heavy lifting for the Lions: 1,100 meters worth of sprinting. The senior star won the 100, 200 and 400 dashes and anchored the winning 1,600 relay team, helping Red Lion wrap up the York-Adams Division I title with an 88-62 victory.

The Red Lion girls also clinched the division crown by defeating South Western, 96-54.

The girls' title was the Lions' first since 1994, and the twin victories marked the first time since 1983 that both Lions' teams won championships in the same year.

"I'm pretty tired, but I'm excited we won," said Knisely, who delivered a performance to remember in his final meet on the Red Lion track. "It's so great to get the county championships in my senior year."

Knisely teamed with Caleb Gatchell, Nate Pardoe and Seth Haight for a time of 3 minutes, 27 seconds in the 1,600 relay, Red Lion's fastest time of the season.

"I am a little surprised (with the time)," Knisely said. "Good handoffs and good motivation made it work for us."

Knisely will graduate as the school record holder in the 100 and 200. He's also No. 2 on the list of best times in the 400.

"Words can't describe what he's meant to this program," Lions' head coach Todd Barshinger said. "When he was a sophomore, all of a sudden, he came out of the blue. He has great form, gets everything he can out of his body and trains like he wants it."

Barshinger's team set the bar high this year, and the Lions sealed the dual-meet deal on Tuesday. Andrew Menges added to the winning cause by sweeping the 110 and 300 hurdles.

"Our slogan was 'Leave No Doubt,'" Barshinger said. "The kids wanted to leave no doubt each time they came out here, and they showed it this season. I knew what we had as far as the older kids, but I'm very happy with some of the younger kids. We have a lot coming back next year, and hopefully, they'll want it (the championship) next year."

The Red Lion girls' team also will be filled with veterans in 2013. Just five of this year's 26 athletes are seniors. One of the seniors, Tierra Darden, went out in style by winning the long jump and triple jump in Tuesday's farewell meet.

"She's truly the unsung hero of the team," Lions' girls' coach Jason Smith said. "She had a really good day today. She's not quite as talented as some of the other girls, but she's always there. She's just as valuable as the ones who score 20 points."

Freshman sensation Angelica Gonzalez continued to dominate the competition by winning the 100 and 200 dashes.

"Angelica, she's a really special athlete," Smith said. "You see it in the results. I can put her in anything."

Smith began coaching in Red Lion's junior high program before becoming head varsity coach three years ago.

"When Todd and I took over, South Western was the team that we were trying to emulate," Smith said. "Their girls won eight straight titles. You have to slay the dragon."

Considering the number of returning athletes Red Lion has, there may be a black-and-gold dragon roaming around York-Adams tracks next season.

OTHER BOYS' TRACK

YORK SUBURBAN 87, WEST YORK 63: At West York, Jonathan Hutchinson and Jamie Nixon-Alark won two individual events apiece to power the Trojans. Hutchinson swept the 110 and 300 hurdles, and Nixon-Alark captured the 100 and 200 dashes. Hutchinson and Nixon-Alark also ran a leg on the winning 400 relay. West York's Kevin Chambers recorded the fastest times in the 1,600 and 3,200 runs. Suburban completed its league season at 5-1 and earned a share of the York-Adams Division II title with Eastern and Northeastern.

DOVER 78, SUSQUE HANNOCK 68: At Dover, Mike LoPresti won the javelin, shot put and discus to lead the Eagles. For the Warriors, Kevin Procopio won the 800, 1,600 and 3,200 runs.

LITTLESTOWN 90, YORK TECH 60: At Littlestown, the Thunderbolts sewed up the York-Adams Division III title at 7-0-0. Brandon Study won the 100 and 200 for Littlestown. For the Spartans, Jeremiah Gilbert won the long jump, triple jump and 110 hurdles, while Travis Gudz won the 1,600 and 3,200. Tech finished 6-1-0.

DALLASTOWN 128, SPRING GROVE 21: At Dallastown, Johnathan Dadeboe won the triple jump and 110 hurdles for the Wildcats, while Darrian Hopson won the 200 and 100.

BIGLERVILLE 104, YORK CATHOLIC 44: At Biglerville, Tyler Lieberum led the Canners, winning the long jump, high jump and triple jump. For the Irish, Alex Taylor won the 110 and 300 hurdles.

OTHER GIRLS' TRACK

YORK SUBURBAN 136, WEST YORK 12: At West York, Suburban clinched the York-Adams Division II title with a dominating performance. The Trojans, who finished a perfect 6-0 in league meets, won all 18 events in their season finale. Lauren Shrader (100 hurdles, 300 hurdles), Lisa Drusedum (200, 400), Lily Corsaro (1,600, 3200), Bethany Miller (pole vault, high jump) and Taylor Landis (triple jump, long jump) were double individual winners.

DOVER 79, SUSQUE HANNOCK 71: At Dover, Stephanie Ferry won the shot put and discus for Dover. For the Warriors, Leah Deter won the triple jump and 100 hurdles, while Alesha Herman won the 200 and 100.

LITTLESTOWN 88, YORK TECH 55: At Littlestown, the Thunderbolts were led by Courtney Price (shot put, discus), Trina Chavez (pole vault, 200), Liz Reese (3,200, 1,600) and Faith Ashford (100, 400), who each won two individual events. For the Spartans, Acia Stewart took first in the triple jump, 100 and 300 hurdles.

DALLASTOWN 104, SPRING GROVE 46: At Dallastown, Paige Barefoot won the 100, 200 and 400 for the Wildcats, while Sally Trout won the 100 and 300 hurdles and Lare Word won the high jump and triple jump.

BIGLERVILLE 110, YORK CATHOLIC 39: At Biglerville, the Canners were led by Savannah Rosensteel (high jump, triple jump), Amanda Wallace (100, long jump), Brooke Thomas (100, 300 hurdles) and Melanie Lindemulder (shot put, javelin) who each won two individual events.
